What is Lampstead Memory, and how does a day work?
It's a Scripture memory app built around short daily segments.
- Today gives you your due reviews plus one new verse a day (you can choose to add more).
- Read it a phrase at a time. The verse is split into short phrases at its punctuation. You tap through them, and you can Cover the text to test yourself.
- Say it check. You recite the verse from memory, either the whole verse or In phrases, where each phrase needs about 80% of its words matched before you go on to the whole verse. Tap the mic and speak, or type it if you'd rather. Matched words light up, and you see your score (for example "42/45 words matched · 93%") with any missed words.
- Spaced review. Your score sets when the verse comes back: soon if it was shaky, days or weeks later if it was solid. That's what makes verses stick.
- The checker allows for common speech-recognition slips and KJV variants (such as "thee"/"the" and numbers said as words), so one misheard word doesn't throw off the rest.
Is it free?
Yes. The free version includes up to 25 saved verses (your own included), daily spaced review, the daily review reminder, the King James Version, streaks, and light and dark mode.
- During the web beta, every Premium feature is free for everyone, so there's nothing to buy. Premium adds unlimited verses, whole-book memorization, verse packs, Listen (verses read aloud), Add from Lampstead, extra practice modes, the World English Bible, a weekly recap and detailed stats.
- Founding tester offer: "Founding tester: free during beta, 50% off your first year at launch." To save your spot, leave your email on the Today screen. The 50% discount applies at store launch on all platforms. Ticking the updates box is optional.
- Free trial (planned): a 7-day free trial for new subscribers is planned for when the iPhone and Android apps launch. It is not live yet, because nothing is for sale yet.
Do I need an account?
No. The app works fully without signing in, and your progress is saved on your device. Signing in is optional and uses the shared Lampstead account, the same one used across Lampstead apps. You can sign in from Progress › About. On the web beta that means Sign in with Google. Sign in with Apple shows as "coming soon".
Does my progress sync across devices?
Yes, if you sign in. Your progress for each verse (review schedule and mastery), your streak and your practice days sync through your Lampstead account. Changes sync automatically a moment after you practice and each time you open the app. There's also Sync now in Progress › About. If two devices change the same verse, the newer change wins. Note: verse text you type in yourself is saved only on that device (the Library says so). Only the progress syncs.
How does the daily reminder work?
- It's free for everyone, optional, and off until you turn it on (Progress › Reminders). You get one reminder a day at the time you pick (8:00 AM by default), in your local time zone.
- Skip days I've reviewed is on by default, so you aren't reminded once you've already done today's review.
- iPhone app: the reminder is a local notification scheduled on your phone (a week ahead, topped up whenever you open the app). Nothing about it is sent to us.
- Web: it uses web push. Your browser asks for permission, and we store the push subscription with your time, your time zone and your last review date so we can skip days you've already reviewed. It's delivered by your browser's push service and can arrive up to about 15 minutes after your chosen time.
- iPhone (web beta): Safari only allows web reminders once you've added Memory to your Home Screen (Share › Add to Home Screen, iOS 16.4 or later). The app tells you if this step is needed.
- If notifications are blocked, turn them on in Settings › Notifications › Memory (iPhone) or in your browser's site settings.
What happens to my voice when I use the mic in Say it?
We never receive, record or store your audio. Recognition is done by your device's or browser's own speech service:
- In the iPhone app it's Apple's speech recognition.
- On the web it's your browser's built-in speech recognition (for example Chrome uses Google's service, and Safari uses Apple's).
That provider's privacy policy applies. Only the resulting text is used, and it is scored on your device. You can always type the verse instead of using the mic.
How do I restore purchases?
Not needed yet. Store purchases don't exist yet: during the web beta everything is free, and there's nothing to buy or restore. When paid plans open in the iPhone and Android apps, the Premium screen will have Restore purchases, and subscriptions will be managed in your App Store or Google Play settings.
How do I delete my data or my account?
- On this device: go to Progress › About › Delete my data. This erases all your Lampstead Memory progress on the device and turns off the daily reminder, including deleting a web reminder subscription from our server. If you're signed in, it also signs you out, but your synced copy stays on the server until you delete your account.
- Your account: when signed in, go to Progress › About › Delete account. This permanently deletes your Lampstead account (shared by all Lampstead apps), your synced Memory progress on our server, the progress on this device and any reminder subscription. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel that in your App Store or Google Play settings.
- Deleted data may stay in Cloudflare's automatic database backups for up to 30 days.
What about privacy?
There are no ads, no analytics SDKs and no cross-app tracking. Visits are counted anonymously with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies. Without an account, your progress stays on your device. Full details: Privacy Policy.
How do I report a problem?
Go to Progress › About › Report a problem, or use the Report a problem link at the bottom of the Privacy and Terms pages. This opens an email to support@montgomeryappworks.com with the app version, build, device and platform already filled in. Just describe what happened. A real person reviews every request. Reply HUMAN anytime to reach Justin directly.
Delete your account or data
Delete the data on your device (no account needed): open the app, tap Progress, then About, then Delete my data, and confirm. This permanently erases your Lampstead Memory progress on that device and turns off the daily reminder, which also deletes a web reminder subscription from our server. If you're signed in, you're also signed out, and your synced copy stays on our server until you delete your account.
Delete your Lampstead account (if you signed in to sync): open the app, tap Progress, then About, then Delete account, and confirm. This permanently deletes your Lampstead account (shared by all Lampstead apps), your synced Memory progress on our server, the progress on that device and any reminder subscription, and for Sign in with Apple it revokes access to your Apple ID. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings.
Founding tester email: tap Remove my email on the Today card before it's sent, or email us after it has been sent and we will delete it.
Can't open the app? Email support@montgomeryappworks.com from the address you signed in with and ask us to delete your account and data.
Deleted data may remain in Cloudflare's automatic database backups for up to 30 days before it is overwritten.
